Heskett, Tracie. “Why Use Blogs in the Classroom?” Blogging in the Classroom. Westminster, CA: Teacher Created Resources, 2009. 4-6. Print.

This book has a section that talks about why we should use blogs in the classroom. One of the main points it brings up that’s relevant to my essay is the peer to peer collaboration. It talks about how when somebody makes post and or comment there is already an immediate audience and a conversation can get started. Another excellent point it brings up is the convenience of the internet overall which I did not think of. It talked about how it saves time because electronic hw assignments and submissions save time and gets rid of the typical lost/forgot homework excuses. But the most important part is the community and collaboration that blogging in the classroom provides. This section talks a lot and goes into depth

Bilton, Nick. “Meet Facebook’s Mr. Nice.” The New York Times. The New York Times, 22 Oct. 2014. Web. 16 Nov. 2014.

Although my past few annotated bibs have been depressing (as they highlight examples of the terrible effects of cyberbullying), there is still hope. Arturo Bejar works at Facebook and has the responsibility of creating new ways for people to report a post that they feel uncomfortable with or harassed by. Bejar’s goal is to get users to express their emotions about a post that they want removed from Facebook. In this way, he attempts to eliminate those posts and get users to speak out in situations where they feel bullied or harassed. This is important because often times, people who are bullied feel alone and that they have no one to reach out to and they feel hopeless. Bejar helps limit these feelings of loneliness and hopelessness by continually tweaking Facebook.

O’Reilly, Alison. “‘Sorry to Hear You Tried to Kill Urself… next Time Finish It’: One Young Woman’s Harrowing Account of How Cyber-bullies Pushed Her to Breaking Point.” Mail Online. Associated Newspapers, 29 Sept. 2012. Web. 16 Nov. 2014.

The internet continues to expand everyday, with new sites that all attempt to garner as many users as possible to profit off the site. These new sites includes Bebo, a social networking site that gives the user a variety of things to do – blog, post pictures/videos, chat with friends and more. Unfortunately, the freedom that comes with this site enables users to abuse their privileges. Throughout her teen years, Ciara Pugsley was harassed to the point where she attempted suicide multiple times. Fortunately she lived through those attempts but unfortunately, she committed suicide in the end. What is scary about Ciara’s situation is that after the people who were bullying her found out that she had attempted suicide and failed, they continued to harass her even more saying “sorry to hear you tried to kill urself… next time finish it ;)”. Most of the time we think that if teens see the consequences of their actions, they rethink their actions. However, the girls harassing Ciara didn’t learn from the possible consequences and kept up their malevolent behavior.

“Instagram Help Center.” Exposed Private Information. N.p., n.d. Web. 14 Nov. 2014. .

This source is the Privacy Policy of Instagram, specifically covering the subject of reporting a photo that you believe violates your privacy. I believe this will be a good primary source to use in regards to how popular social networks go about removal of photos that we find offensive or we believe violate our policy. This helps the paper show how to go about taking action towards privacy violations.

“ZenHabits : Breathe.” Zenhabits RSS. N.p., n.d. Web. 09 Nov. 2014. <http://zenhabits.net/get-off-your-butt-16-ways-to-get-motivated-when-youre-in-a-slump/>.

This article talks about creating healthy habits in a morning routine and how to go about establishing them. I think this website stands out in particular because the points that are discussed are extremely realistic. It suggests advice that any ordinary person could take.

The website talks about the various options ranging from setting one goal to squashing negative thoughts for the sake of making space for positive ones. The advice given in this post really makes a point.

I would like to use this source to describe various ways that people can incorporate blogging into their everyday routine. These tips encourage motivation which is the only way to make the routine stick and to avoid burn-out. The various strategies discussed in the blog post remind you of why you’re blogging and of what your end goal is. As I read through the article, I felt as though I could personally relate to the ideas the author discussed. Because of how practical the suggestions are, I think it sets the bar for setting realistic expectations and sustaining motivation.

Zhuo, Julie. “Where Anonymity Breeds Contempt.” The New York Times. The New York Times, 29 Nov. 2010. Web. 3 Nov. 2014.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/30/opinion/30zhuo.html?_r=0

This article from the New York Times focus on how anonymity is not positive. It goes into detail about how people troll and take things way too far. For, example in the article a girl committed suicide and people went onto her memorial website and started trolling on there opting horrible comments. People feel as though they can act tis way because no one can do anything to catch them. They are not being help accountable for their actions. What is gong on is very wrong and a serious matter. The article also goes on to speak about how websites are trying to create a feature that allows the comment to go to the moderator before it can be posted. This article seems to very very useful because it provides great examples to back up my topic.

“Why a Website Needs a Privacy Policy Page.” Why A Website Needs a Privacy Policy Page. N.p., 2011. Web. 08 Nov. 2014. .

This explains the necessity of privacy policies. I will use this link to explain why social media platforms need privacy policies and how important it is that we follow these policies to make sure that we are not offending those we take pictures of or use information about.

Wujick, Anne. “WeAreTeachers: Social Media in the Classroom: Pros and Cons.” Social Media in the Classroom: Pros and Cons. Web. 02 Nov. 2014. <http://www.weareteachers.com/blogs/post/2013/07/16/social-media-in-the-classroom-pros-and-cons>.

This article provides quotes from teachers that discuss the pros and cons of blogging in the classroom. Some of the pros discussed include more collaboration/interaction between students and a way to teach students the “right way” to use social media in a safe manner. Although there are some counter arguments in this article, I can definitely use these as refutable points in the essay if I were to ever utilize that strategy. But most importantly this article gives me really solid quotes from teachers who have tried blogging in the classroom themselves.

2014. Instagram. Web. 30 Oct. 2014. .

I thought for my paper it would be interesting to use a picture off of social media that one of my friend’s reacted to. It was a picture posted of a ticket sales line to help advertise an event. My friend got pretty upset that he was in the picture and it was posted without his consent. Like the interview, using a primary source of someone I personally know helps my paper reach out to the reality that we make assumptions and post based on those assumptions. That photo posted without permission shows violations of privacy on social media, which my paper will cover.

Brooks, Larry. “How My Blog Landed Me a Book Deal.” n.d. CopyBlogger.com. <http://www.copyblogger.com/blog-to-book-deal/>.

The main argument of this article is the importance of having a well-defined niche. Brooks argues that it is not how many widely popular your blog is that will attract a publisher when writing you proposal it is the importance of demonstrating that you have a defined niche and that there are people who are interested in that niche. He also talks about the importance of the personal platform; your platform is the you that a perspective publisher will see.

Brooks builds on the research that I have already found while defining it in more particular terms. His blog is the reason he has a book deal for his new book and so I think it is a reliable source. The goal of this source is to educate bloggers on how to make their dreams of a book deal into a reality through the use of a blog.

This source fits right in with the rest of my research. I am going to look into the extra information he provides which I hope I will also be able to use. My argument stays the same, with perhaps a larger emphasis on defining your niche as a blogger. I will be using this source.
