This page describes why writing skills are important. Nearly 49% of high school students, upon graduation, are not prepared for college level reading or writing, and frequently do not significantly improve those skills during their undergraduate education. This article specifically stresses the importance of the writing skill in business, but it can apply to any field. Recruiting managers in business firms are well aware of this problem, and having an example of a student’s writing ability readily available could make the difference between getting a job or not. They would see, first hand, several example of that applicant’s writing style, and if the other applicants do not have this example, the student has a large advantage.
